COVID-19 disinfections in Ibiza and Formentera.
COVID-19
In the words of the World Health Organisation: "COVID-19 is the disease caused by the new coronavirus known as SARS-CoV-2".
SARS-CoV-2 is a virus belonging to the coronavirus family, the origin of which is believed to be a zoonosis, i.e. a virus that after mutating, has managed to adapt to life within an organism different from the one it had been occupying before the mutation.
This coronavirus was first detected on 12 November 2019, in the city of Wuhan. From Wuhan, it spread with people to the rest of the world and on 11 March the WHO characterised it as a pandemic because of its relevance and severity. The first positive for COVID-19 in Ibiza was detected on 6 March 2020. In Formentera, the first 2 positives were recorded on 30 March 2020.
The case of this zoonosis should make us all aware of the importance of having hygienic habits and an environment as clean and free of organisms as possible. Organisms (such as pests) that can act as vectors (transmitters) of micro-organisms that can make us sick. An example of this can occur just by eating food contaminated by direct contact with an insect.
COVID-19 disease is spread through aerosols, i.e. droplets of saliva that can be expelled by talking, sneezing, coughing or even exhaling air. It can also be spread by contact, e.g. by touching contaminated surfaces.
The natural reservoir, i.e. the origin of the virus, is unknown. However, different options are currently being studied as possible candidates, including bats, snakes and pangolins.
COVID-19 disinfections in Ibiza and Formentera: working methodology.
COVID-19 disinfection, as with other types of disinfection, can be preventive or corrective. Undoubtedly, it is always advisable not to wait for the latter, i.e. to have a confirmed positive result.
In any case, whether it is a preventive disinfection or a disinfection for a confirmed case, it must always be carried out in depth: in the case of micro-organisms, whether they are responsible for COVID-19 or any other condition, half-hearted work is no good. A contaminated microscopic particle is enough to infect and spread a micro-organism.
In order to correctly disinfect the environment and the objects that occupy it, we use different techniques for applying the biocide product, i.e. the disinfectant:
Lotion or impregnation.
It is applied by rubbing or pressing the disinfectant with cloths, cotton or other textile materials, in those points or areas where no other technique can be used.
Spraying .
The disinfectant is applied by means of small drops that impregnate the different surfaces, whose size and density can be regulated to make the application more efficient. They do not remain suspended in the air for more than a short period of time.
Fogging.
This disinfectant application technique has a higher penetration and coverage power than the other two. The disinfectant is applied with microdroplets that create a mist that saturates the air with biocide, and ends up covering and reaching all types of surfaces.
It is important to emphasise that the disinfectant product is always chosen according to the micro-organism to be combated and the environment in which it is applied. The disinfectants we use are regulated by the Ministry of Health and are for professional use.
Quality assurance.
All the products we use for COVID-19 disinfections are on the official list of the Ministry of Health for use in COVID-19 disinfections. The client, both in advance if he so wishes, and once the work has been completed by means of the relevant report, has proof of which product, where, how and in what quantities it has been used.
All our technicians have the professional qualifications required by the Ministry of Health to carry out COVID-19 disinfections.
All disinfection services contracted with Nova Control include a series of recommendations and guidelines related to hygiene at a microscopic level, which allow the client, be it a private individual, company or public administration, to prevent the case from happening again.
