Both in installations for private use and those intended for public use, it is always advisable to maintain control and monitoring of the entire water circuit and its different components; both in the hot water circuit and in the cold water circuit. Water is an essential element for the health and daily life of people, their pets and our environment in general. Therefore, to think that just as we maintain hygiene and renew all the consumer goods present in our daily lives, it would be shocking not to see the need to apply the same hygienic criteria to a medium as important as water, and the different elements with which it comes into contact (pipes, heaters, terminals, tanks...). In the same way that we have to wash a bucket or a bottle before reusing it, we must have adequate control and hygiene on the rest of the components with which the water comes into contact in our installations, before its final use.
Changing rooms, tanks, cisterns, accumulators, hot water heaters, etc. are all critical points, which although they do not necessarily generate problems with microorganisms, if they lack proper maintenance and routine control, they can become important sources of Legenionella and other pathogenic microorganisms. A hyperchlorination, like the one in the service in the photos accompanying this entry, consists of a chemical treatment by means of an increase in chlorine, always carried out by a Qualified Technician, to eradicate any type of population of existing pathogenic microorganisms. Hyperchlorination, to be effective, has to affect the whole water circuit: from the initial point of entry of the water to the installations, to the furthest terminal point.
Once hyperchlorination has been carried out, a series of samples and measurements are collected, such as water temperature (sampling must be done in both hot and cold water circuits), pH and chlorine level. The samples collected by our Qualified Technicians, always in accordance with current regulations, i.e. Royal Decree 487/2022 of 21 June, which establishes the health requirements for the prevention and control of legionellosis, are subsequently analysed in an independent laboratory to verify their potability and absence of pathogens.
