When wood is not treated, there is a constant risk that it will be affected by wood-boring agents. One of the most common is the common furniture woodworm or small woodworm (Anobium punctatum).
The Common furniture woodworm, is a small beetle measuring between 2.5 and 5 mm, which, as a pest, is of interest to us in its larval stage, i.e. the one that feeds on the wood, the "worm", before it reaches its adult stage in the form of a woodworm beetle.
Woodworm not only affects furniture (tables, chairs, chests of drawers, bedsteads, shelves...), but also structures such as beams, floors, ceilings... it is estimated that it is responsible for 70% of the damage caused to this type of construction element. They have a brownish colour, with the body covered with longitudinal "lines" and are easily detectable by the holes they produce in the wood. These holes are usually accompanied by a fine dust, which the larvae expel from the inside in their incessant work of feeding on the wood in which they are lodged.
The photos accompanying this small entry correspond to a service carried out by Nova Control to eradicate this pest from some furniture. The treatment consisted of a brush impregnation with biocide gel. It is always advisable to carry out this type of treatment taking precautionary measures such as covering the work area with plastic and those surfaces, which due to their characteristics or construction materials, it is not desirable that they come into contact with the biocide product.
