They bite and bite... and bite again: mosquitoes on the attack.
NOVA CONTROL, MOSQUITO CONTROL IN IBIZA AND FORMENTERA.
If you are looking to eliminate mosquitoes in Ibiza and Formentera, at Nova Control we can study your case and offer you a tailor-made solution. As we will never tire of repeating, not all pests are the same, nor even within the same pest, all environments, limitations or customer preferences are the same, therefore, neither between different pests, nor even when dealing with the same pest, there will be the same magic solution that will solve everything.
How to eliminate a mosquito infestation?
The first step, without a doubt, is to correctly identify the pest, that is to say: to verify that the problem is indeed mosquitoes. It is not uncommon for clients to call us on occasions complaining of a mosquito infestation, not because they see them, but because they have bites that they attribute to this infestation. But if these bites are the result of another pest, no matter how much treatment is done for mosquitoes, the only thing that will happen when dealing with a pest that does not share the same habitat, or that is not affected by the products and corrective measures applied, is that the company that proceeds in this way, will be cheating its client by charging him for something that he did not need, and moreover, that will not solve the problem.
Therefore, once our technicians have confirmed that they are mosquitoes, the next step is to identify the species. There are several species of nematocera (the suborder to which mosquitoes belong), existing in Ibiza and Formentera, and which are very easily confused with each other. But broadly speaking, and speaking of mosquitoes themselves, the two main species are usually the common mosquito (Culex pipiens) and the dreaded tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus).

As we were saying, mosquitoes belong to the suborder of nematocerans, where we can find, apart from other mosquito species, other flying insects similar in size, appearance and habits (they bite), which can be confused. For a more detailed description of these species, we have a more extensive description in the section of the web dedicated to these pest species:

With the pest and the species already identified, we have part of what we need to be able to begin to propose a solution to the problem. Because as you can see in the images from a typical mosquito control service in a location that combines the presence of water and landscaped areas, such as the ones that accompany this post, the study of the environment is just as important as knowing how to identify the species. We will never tire of repeating it: at Nova Control, all our technicians are perfectly familiar with the pest species offered within our services, and this has a direct impact on the quality and honesty of the work carried out. In other words: you can try to eliminate a pest by hand, and maybe you will succeed (apart from introducing an unnecessary amount of chemicals into the environment and avoidable cost overruns); or you can eliminate it by applying an integral pest control, which not only takes into account the application of biocide products, but also the elimination of those elements/factors, which in practice can make the pest chronic, or require an avoidable number of repetitions of the chemical treatment (biocides).
The vital cliche of the mosquito.
To reduce both the amount of biocide applied and the associated costs, it is important to know the life history of the species. As indicated above, this and other aspects of mosquitoes can be found in the section we have dedicated to this pest on the web. Therefore, here we will only summarise that water is essential for them, as they need it for the development of their larvae.

As can be glimpsed, knowing the relationship between mosquitoes and water can give us extra tools to be able to control the pest in a more efficient and environmentally friendly way.
It will be in this medium, water, where, apart from suppressing it when possible, we will attack them using biological control, by applying a selective bacterium, which affects the mosquito larvae, without impacting other species, when this treatment is applied correctly by a technician with the appropriate experience and training.
However, it will rarely be possible to completely eliminate the application of biocides in a mosquito problem. What can and should be done is to reduce dependence on them, both to avoid unnecessary impact on the environment and the work environment, and to eliminate unnecessary cost overruns with an excessive number of applications.

Mosquitoes, in their adult stage, take refuge in vegetation areas, and in certain environments and/or circumstances, spraying the areas surrounding the affected area to be kept free of mosquitoes is an essential part of the treatment, as in the case of the photograph above. But as already indicated, taking into account other factors and characteristics of the environment, and acting on them with other types of measures, can help to reduce the dependence of the effectiveness of the treatment on the use of biocidal products.
In any case, just as not all pests are the same, not all biocidal products are the same. At Nova Control we always try to use products that are as environmentally friendly as possible, without detriment to the quality of the service provided.
